Gran Acuario de Mazatlán Mar de Cortés
It is a World Class Aquarium, already considered among the most outstanding in the world due to its size and importance with an area of 50,000 m2 and an investment of one hundred million USD. The venue will have 19 exhibition rooms, 4 interior patios, 3 exterior rooms, and 1 botanical garden, where the richness of the region's ecosystems will be exhibited: Earth, Forest, Coast, and Deep Sea, all focused on the richness and beauty of the Sea of Cortez, also known as the aquarium of the world.
"The main attraction will be the Great Ocean Tank, with a window 43 ft wide by 23 ft high and more than 2.5 million liters of water."
This large venue will focus on research, science outreach, and educational demonstrations. It will be the largest in Latin America and the only one dedicated to the Sea of Cortez. The imposing building was in charge of the firm of the great renowned architect, Tatiana Bilbao, achieving an iconic result of a building that seems to have emerged from the sea.
More than 73 national and international companies participated in this vital project and it is expected to have more than 900,000 visits in its first year of opening. In addition, with a primary interest in the ocean and coastlines, the Gran Acuario Mazatlán will have more than 15 lines of research and 34 projects in favor of conservation.
